Five Phase Recovery
Phase 1
Primarily passive range of motion. The focus is on keeping general movement capacity as well as strengthening muscles away from the injury that will prevent future reinjury.
Phase 2
Focuses on active movement with little to no resistance. Muscle activation and control are primary goals.
Phase 3
Increases load and adds new movements to strengthen and reorganize your tissues.
Phase 4
Returns you to normal activity. The loads and forces increase even more with plyometrics.
Phase 5
Though your pain should now be gone and function back to normal, the best way to prevent future weakness and mitigate the risk for future pain is to continue to maintain and even improve what you have currently.
