Why It Works

Alright, you have a nagging pain in your knee, wrist, low back, shoulder…what have you. How could an online program help you without ever hearing all the details about what happened, what exactly you feel, the different pops and clicks with this movement or that stretch? You might be thinking: “Renegade Rehab only asks a few detailed questions, but there is so much they don’t know. They aren’t diagnosing me, and that matters! Right?” Well, it often doesn’t. Scientific research shows that in many instances, regardless of the exact reason behind many causes of pain throughout the body, increased function and decreased pain can be achieved with general exercises that address muscular imbalances, decreased strength, and limited mobility through a progressively overloaded program that follows the phases of bodily recovery. In short, based on research and clinical experience, the body may improve in function and pain using a semi-general program of rehab exercises. So, that is exactly what we offer: a “general” program that is tailored to your situation and follows the steps of usual body recovery.

If we did just say that a lot of this is based on scientific literature, then why not just read the research and do it on your own? You definitely can! We are currently in the process of outlining many of the research articles that detail the science behind our programming and welcome you to read them for yourself. You may have to pay an institution for some of them if you want the entire article, but we encourage self learning and knowledge. However, based on research, clinical experience, and basic world experience, we know that a large majority of you just won’t follow through on a program you have to find and execute yourself - especially without reminders, prompting, a clear progression, or ease of accessibility. We not only offer those assets, which are key to following through, but we also program exercises found to be effective through clinical experience as research doesn’t look at every potential exercise that could be helpful. Most importantly, we offer all of these in a program that is tailored to your circumstance.

Hold on a second. You said it didn’t matter what exactly caused my loss of function and pain. Why do you tailor programs to each person?

Well, some details do matter for expedience of recovery and to pay respect to the phases of bodily recovery. After an injury your body naturally goes through a progression of recovery phases. These phases are often accounted for in research based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the studies.

Generally in research, inclusion and exclusion criteria define who is allowed in and who is kept out of the studies. How long they’ve had the pain, the general average severity of pain, and whether or not they have other types of symptoms are some examples. Some people may be allowed to participate in a study only if they have had problems for at least 2 months, for example, and other studies may be exclude those who have had pain for more than 3 weeks. Each study is different because they account for different phases of recovery (and other various criteria). Therefore, the studies themselves are inherently tailored to certain populations, so we too tailor our programs for you based on a few details that give us better insight into your current situation while respecting normal bodily recovery.

So now you know! We hope this helped you understand the reasoning behind the programming, why it works, and what we offer. No matter what route you choose to go, we wish you luck in improving your function and pain.
